Dear all,
I have compiled a questionnaire with English examples for the uses of
the verb mean. The data will be used for the project of composing a
crosslinguistic semantic map for the meanings, senses, and uses of this
verb and its equivalents in other languages. The verb is a central tool
for talking about language and communication - something to be expected
to be found in a wide range of languages. The investigation might be of
interest not only for linguistics but also for anthropology.
I would very much appreciate your help in collecting data on languages
of your expertise! Every language or language variety is welcome.
There are three attachments to this mail:
- a pdf file with instructions
- a rtf file with the questionnaire to be filled in directly. Please,
use this one if possible!
- a pdf version of the questionnaire for manual filling-in
Thank you very much if you can support this endeavor
Best regards,
Sebastian Löbner
