Dear all,
We are pleased to announce the Spring School on Language Variation which will take place on 15-17 May 2023 in Bologna, Italy (https://site.unibo.it/language-variation/en).
The School is organized by Caterina Mauri (Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, LILEC) and by Silvia Ballarè, Nicola Grandi, and Simone Mattiola (Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies, FICLIT) of the University of Bologna with the support of the Experimental Lab of the LILEC Department.
The School on Language Variation aims to provide an interactive forum for Ph.D. students and MA students who are looking to advance their skills and knowledge within the field of linguistics.
More specifically, the school aims at fostering a theoretical and practical reflection on language variation from different perspectives in order to discuss how and why languages change. The Spring School consists of 6 lectures (3h each) given by world-renowned scholars:
* Language variation and language use - Holger Diessel (University of Jena)
* Language variation and interactional linguistics - Yael Maschler (University of Haifa)
* Language variation and emerging changes - Sali A. Tagliamonte (University of Toronto)
* Language variation and evolving grammars - Shana Poplack (University of Ottawa)
* Language variation and language varieties - Benedikt Szmrecsanyi (KU Leuven)
* Language variation and linguistic typology - Natalia Levshina (Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics - Nijmegen)
More information about the program, how to apply, and deadlines can be found on the school website (https://site.unibo.it/language-variation/en/participation).
We ask you to disseminate this call among those you think may be interested.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries!
Best,
Simone (with Silvia, Caterina, and Nicola)
