Dear colleagues, 

We are pleased to inform you that the call for papers for the 1st "Language and languages at the crossroads of disciplines" (LLcD) conference is open until April 20. Abstracts can be submitted either for the general session or for one of the workshops (WS) of the following list: 

• WS1 Metrics, Textsetting 
• WS2 Applicative uses of spatial markers: typological and diachronic perspectives 
• WS3 Images in computer-mediated discourse: issues, forms, functions, integration 
• WS4 The demonstrative in the evolutionary process. Typological variation and change 
• WS5 Subordination in Creole languages 
• WS6 Grammatical gender in diachrony 
• WS7 Morph2Read: From morphological knowledge to reading comprehension in L1 and L2 learners 
• WS8 Future directions in Word and Paradigm morphology 
• WS9 Cooccurrences et marquage discursif 
• WS10 Empirical Phonology 
• WS11 Expressing extreme quantity: a myriad of variants 
• WS12 Natural language processing and linguistic variation analysis 

Two workshops under a "Workshop & Tutorial" format are also planned. 

• WT1 Research infrastructures and FAIR principles in linguistics: interdisciplinary perspectives, theoretical implications and practical applications 
• WT2 Corpus et méthodes pour l’analyse outillée des variétés de français à travers le monde (CoMeVar) 

Workshop descriptions are available on the conference web page (llcd2024.sciencesconf.org). 


The conference will be held from September 9 to 11 at Sorbonne Université. 

The theme of the 1st edition of the LLcD symposium is: "Languages, variation, change: synchronic, diachronic, typological and comparative approaches". Proposals for papers not related to the conference theme are also welcome. The languages of conference will be French and English. 

The round table, scheduled for September 11, 2024, will focus on "Linguistic evolution and biological evolution". Invited speakers include Teresa Biberauer (University of Cambridge), Sonia Cristofaro (Sorbonne University, Paris), John Hawkins (UC Davis/University of Cambridge), Martin Haspelmath (Max Planck Institute, Leipzig), Arie Verhagen (University of Leiden). 

The conference will be followed by a summer school on "The cognitive status of language universals and their diffusion mechanisms", to be held on September 12-14. The courses will be taught by Teresa Biberauer (University of Cambridge), John Hawkins (UC Davis/University of Cambridge) and Martin Haspelmath (Max Planck Institute, Leipzig).
