Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to announce that a new online typological database, the
Typological Database of the Volga Area Finno-Ugric Languages (Havas et al.
2023) has been released and is available at <https://volgatyp.elte.hu/>
volgatyp.elte.hu. The database, which is available in three languages
(English, Hungarian and Russian), aims to present the main typological
properties of three Finno-Ugric (Uralic) languages belonging to the
Volga-Kama area: Meadow Mari, Udmurt and Komi-Permyak. It consists of more
than 200 typological parameters (morphological, morphosyntactic and
syntactic, among which word order-related features), and the related
parameter values for each language. Parameter values are marked with
specific codes, and each parameter value is illustrated by linguistic
examples and is accompanied by a concise description of the related
phenomenon of the given language. The linguistic data partly come from
previous sources and are partly new data, collected from native speakers and
from contemporary written texts. The set of parameters is identical with
that of the "Typological Database of the Ugric Languages (
<http://utdb.elte.hu/> utdb.elte.hu); this set, as well as the scope of
targeted languages, are open to be amplified.
The database was developed at the Department for Finno-Ugric Studies at
Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. The development was financed by
the project NKFI K 125282 'Typological database of the Volga Area
Finno-Ugric Languages' (PI: Ferenc Havas) of the Hungarian National
Research, Development and Innovation Office.
Best,
Ferenc
