Dear all,

On behalf of the editorial board of the Open Access journal Language under Discussion<https://journals.helsinki.fi/lud/issue/current> it is my great pleasure to announce the publication of our new issue containing a wonderful article by Martina Wiltschko, titled 'Emotions do not enter grammar because they are constructed (by grammar)<https://journals.helsinki.fi/lud/article/view/2362>'. The article is everything that we hope that contributions to the journal can be: it addresses a profound theoretical topic, takes a firm stand, but also attempts to reach across the aisle, and takes a cross-disciplinary approach to language. It also contains a large number of typological examples, many from works by contributors to this list and, no doubt, quite a few controversial claims that invite debate.

We would also like to take this opportunity to briefly (re-)introduce our journal to list members. LuD<https://journals.helsinki.fi/lud/about> publishes target/discussion papers that take on fundamental questions about the essence of language (what is it?; what is it for?; how should we study it?) in a way that allows for cross-disciplinary discussion and aims to do justice to the breadth of language studies. After publication, we invite short commentary notes, submitted to the journal here<https://journals.helsinki.fi/lud/about/submissions>, which comment or elaborate on an aspect of the target paper. After a year, the author of the target paper writes a response to the commentaries.

Given the fractured nature of our field(s), our aim is for the discussions in LuD-issues to be as cross-theoretical and cross-disciplinary as possible and go into details or lines of argumentation that are more difficult to pursue in most linguistics journals. Because of this format, writing a contribution that fits the goals of LuD can be challenging but we are a fully scholar-run journal without article processing charges and are very open to providing feedback to contributors at any stage of the submission.

Please consider writing a commentary on Martina Wiltschko's article, or submit your own target paper for the journal. You are also very welcome to get in touch with your ideas or suggestions for a potential contribution.

Thank you,
Stef
