Dear Nigel, Grev, list members,
Thanks for the recommendation, Grev! Just to say that I’m currently finalising a new edition, to be released in the new year.
All the best,
Jeanette

Hi Nigel

For a basic introduction I’d recommend Jeanette Sakel’s 2015: Study skills for Linguistics http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9780415720465/

I need to declare an interest, as one of the editors. But that means I have read it before recommending it.

Very best
Grev

Dear All,
A friend has asked me to recommend a good basic introduction to linguistics. It's nearly 20 years since I taught any intro courses and I haven't kept up with the relevant literature. I'd like to suggest to her something that covers most subfields and with no particular theoretical slant. What would colleagues recommend? Advice gratefully received.
Best
Nigel
