The Algonquian Studies Association is looking for a new co-editor for 
Papers of the Algonquian Conference (PAC). Monica Macaulay will be 
leaving her position as co-editor after more than ten years of service. 
The remaining co-editors Inge Genee and Natalie Weber are looking for 
one or two energetic individuals to strengthen the team. This is 
currently an unpaid position for an initial term of three years to begin 
as soon as possible.

PAC has been the flagship venue for the dissemination of original 
scholarship in Algonquian Studies for more than half a century. 
Currently published by Michigan State University Press, it publishes 
peer reviewed papers from the Algonquian Conference held annually in 
October.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We work collaboratively on all aspects of the publishing process. There 
is no editor-in-chief.

Tasks include:
* Call for papers: Distribute at annual conference and email out to 
presenters
* Peer review process: Secure peer reviewers, send out papers and 
guidelines to reviewers, receive reviewers’ reports, make editorial 
decisions
* Revision process: Communicate editorial decisions to authors, work 
with them on revisions, assess revised submissions
* Copy-editing and page proofing process: Work with the copyeditors at 
the Press and the authors to create clean texts and final page layout

WORKLOAD
Currently on average 2-4 hours/week, with busier and quieter times
Zoom meetings approximately once a month, more frequently in busier times

Submissions are divided equally between the co-editors. Depending on the 
number of submissions each co-editor currently handles approximately 4-5 
papers per volume.

REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for one or two energetic individuals with the following 
characteristics:
* Considerable knowledge of and experience in the field of Algonquian 
Studies
* Experience with research dissemination processes, preferably from both 
sides, i.e. as author and as editor / editorial board member
* Commitment to regular meetings and editorial work for a term of three 
years (renewable)
* Interest in and willingness to contribute to realignment of the 
relationship between PAC, the annual Algonquian Conference, and the new 
Algonquian Studies Association
* Interest in and willingness to contribute to ongoing decolonization work
* Familiarity with and commitment to issues around Indigenous data 
sovereignty and ethics
* Strong organizational skills; ability to manage projects and adhere to 
timeliness
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to 
collaboratively work with others

We welcome new co-editors with backgrounds in any field, although we are 
particularly interested in building expertise in fields other than 
linguistics to complement the existing expertise among the current 
editorial team members. Members of Algonquian communities are especially 
encouraged to apply.
