The DFG funded project "The synchronic and diachronic typology of basic 
semantic gender assignment: a comprehensive assessment of African 
languages" investigates gender systems across African languages and is 
especially dedicated to the assessment of semantic nominal assignment. 
The project is situated at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and led by Tom 
Güldemann. We are looking for a (predoctoral) researcher who will carry 
out cross-linguistic research on gender systems in languages of the 
Afroasiatic family.

*Activities:***
§Scientific services in research for the project
§Survey of synchronic gender assignment in the Afroasiatic language domain
§Historical analysis of gender systems in various Afroasiatic language 
groups
§Investigation of the lexical stability of gender assignment in Afroasiatic
§(Possibility of drafting a PhD thesis)

*Your profile:***
§Completed scientific university degree in African linguistics or a 
comparable field
§Strong proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software
§Very good English skills
§High degree of independence, commitment, flexibility, resilience, and 
ability to work in a team
§Advanced knowledge in Afroasiatic linguistics

*What we’re offering:***
§Three years part-time employment (66%) - corresponds to a gross income 
of about 3.500 Euros/month (with the possibility of one-year extension 
subject to funding)
§Partial remote work can be negotiated

§Opportunity for independent research design, as well as mentorship from 
senior scholars
