I'd be happy to create such a database for language names. I agree with 
your arguments in that post. But it clearly requires the participation 
of native English speakers, many of them for different regions/families.

And it would be reasonable to make such a project connected with 
Glottolog, but perhaps that's not necessary.

I'll have to think about it.
