University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
POSITION IN FORMAL SEMANTICS
 
As announced earlier this fall, the Department of Linguistics at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a specialist in
formal semantics for a position to begin August 21, 1996. This is a
full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor or junior
associate professor level, salary competitive. The position is part of
an interdisciplinary cognitive science program at the University of
Illinois.  Strong research and teaching interest in formal semantics
of natural language is required and concomitant interest in related
ares of cognitive science is desirable, including an interest in
relevant computational research and applications. It is expected that
candidates will have completed the Ph.D. by 21 August 1996.

The Linguistics Program and the Department of Languages and Literature
at the University of Utah invite applications for a tenure-track
assistant professor position beginning in the 1996-97 academic year.
We seek someone with a strong background and interest in syntax and in
language contact (e.g., pidgins & creoles, language change through
contact, bilingualism, language and culture).  Teaching
responsibilities include introductory and advanced syntax,
introductory linguistics, and one or more courses dealing with
language contact.  Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment.
 
The interdepartmental Linguistics Program has a strong undergraduate
degree in general linguistics, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics, and
important curricular ties to the Department of Languages & Literature
and the Graduate School of Education.  The University of Utah provides
excellent opportunities and support for research.  For earliest
