Subject: Language Acquisition Query
 
Hi there!
I could use a bit help from any Language Acquisition people out there
(academic rather than practical, I'm glad to say). I'm looking for
ayn references on the acquisition of Dative Shift in English. I'm
particularly interested in the *negative evidence* side of things,
but all references are welcome. At the moment I'm looking at first
language acquisition but would also be interested in any second
language acquisition references people may have.

Subject: Recording equipment for child language
 
I would be grateful for advice/opinions on the best type of recorders and
microphones to use for recording child language data. The project for which
these will mainly be used involves recording children aged 18 months to
4 years interacting with caregivers in their own homes. In particular we
would like to know whether there is any advantage in digital equipment, and
whether radio microphones are a good idea. We are interested in syntax
rather than phonology in the study.

Subject: Arabic Word Processor
 
 
Most of the replies I have received to my query with regard to an Arabic
word processor that runs on Apple/Macintosh computers recommend 'Nisus
Writer version 4.0 with Language Key'. The program costs $334.95, including
the 'Language Key' which enables you to use non-Roman script languages like
Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese or Chinese. It is claimed that Nisus Writer has
many advantages such as enabling you to use both the Arabic and the Latin
script in the same document, switching from left-to-right (as in English)
to right-to left (as in Arabic) within the same document. It also has
unlimited dos and undos and multiple editable clipboards.
