ONE DAY CONFERENCE ON "FUTURES FOR SCOTS:

This conference is organised by the Forum for Research into the
Languages of Scotland and Ulster.
It deals with LANGUAGE PLANNING FOR SCOTS.
 
The speakers are:
 
1.Alastair Allan, on Language planning for Scots;
2.Marace Dareau, on Scots as a subject for research;
3.Stuart McHardy, on The role of the SLRC [Scots Language Resource
Centre];
4.Kenneth MacKinnon, on Linguistic, social and market research
strategies;
5.Finlay MacLeod, on The lessons of Gaelicl;
6.Robbie Robertson, on The place of Scots in schools;
7.Kim Hardie, on Scots language: the Belgian Experience.
 
The date is 23 SEPTEMBER 1995. The conference will be held at the REGENT
LECTURE THEATRE, King's College, ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY.
 
The fee will be roughly 8 pounds which includes coffee and tea, but does
not include lunch.

Dear Colleague,
 
     The 1995 International Conference on Linguistics marking the
20th anniversary of the foundation of the Linguistic Society of Korea
is to be held July 3 to 7, 1995. This is to announce that the paper
deadline is extended to June 15. Anyone who wants to presents a paper
at the Conference is invited to submit a one-page abstract of the
paper NO LATER THAN JUNE 15, 1995. Abstract submissions should include
a 3" by 5" card with the title of the paper, full name(s) of the
author(s), and the address of the (primary) author, including e-mail
address if available. Each paper will be allotted 30 minutes for
presentation and discussion. The abstract can be sent via e-mail, which
should be made by plain DOS ASCII text. After the Conference, selected
papers will appear in _Korean Journal of Linguistics_ 20-3, this fall.
 
     The following linguists are invited to give lectures at the
Conference:

     Roland R. Hausser     (Universitaet Nuernberg-Erlangen, Germany)
     Paul Kiparsky         (Stanford University, USA)
     Ivan Sag              (Stanford University, USA)
     Joseph P. Stemberger  (University of Minnesota, USA)
     Dong-Whee Yang        (Korea)
 
One of the highlights at the Conference is the panel discussion on
Korean Linguistics. At each LSK meeting, a selected topic in Korean
linguistics is intensively dealt. At this time, the topic is
"Linguistics in North Korea: its Background and Current Trend".
