7TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FUNCTIONAL GRAMMAR
                  CORDOBA (SPAIN), SEPTEMBER 23-27, 1996
                   (first announcement/call for papers)

The 7th International Conference on Functional Grammar will be
held in the last week of September 1996 and will be hosted by the
University of Cordoba, Spain. Linguists working within the
framework of the theory of Functional Grammar as set out in Dik
(1989) or interested in comparing Functional Grammar with other
frameworks are invited to participate in this conference.

In view of the sudden and much regretted death of Leocadio Martin
Mingorance, president of the local organizing committee, an
international program committee consisting of Luis Costa
Palacios, Chantal Perez Hernandez, and Jesus Sanchez Garcia
(Cordoba), Machtelt Bolkestein and Kees Hengeveld (Amsterdam) has
been formed.

Those intending to present a paper are invited to send an
abstract (one page A4 maximally), to the international program
committee at the address below by January 15th, 1996. There is
no limitation as to topic, but especially welcomed are papers on
Natural Language Processing, on Lexicology and Lexicography, and on
Pragmatics and Discourse in Functional Grammar. The time allotted
to papers is 30 minutes followed by 15 minutes discussion time.
Submission by e-mail would be preferred.

In addition to papers in the usual format, there will be poster
sessions for those who wish to display work for discussion with
colleagues in an informal way.

Those interested in receiving the second circular are requested
to return the registration form by January 15th, 1996.

Further information concerning the conference can be obtained
from the international program committee, c/o Kees Hengeveld,
