Intelligent Text Processing, Inc. in Santa Monica, CA
is seeking to hire an individual for the position of
computational lexicographer.  The primary responsibility
is maintainance and augmentation of a large sense-disambiguated
lexicon and semantic ontology.  Lexical entries contain coded
morphological and syntactic features, as well as semantic
features expressed in a first order logic format.
 
You must have a Master's or Ph.D. in linguistics, an excellent
grasp of syntax & first-order logic, a good understanding of
English syntax, an excellent vocabulary, and familiarity with
UNIX and computational linguistics.  You must be bright,
motivated, honest, and dedicated.
 
It is desirable for you to also have knowledge or experience
in lexicography, as well as knowledge of the Prolog programming
language.
 
Intelligent Text Processing, Inc. is a small company of
linguists and computer engineers dedicated to the building and
maintenance of true natural language understanding systems
which are comprehensive enough to be commercially viable.

			SYNTAX POSITION
 
The Department of Linguistics at Northwestern University announces a
full-time tenure-track position in syntax at the assistant professor
level.  The starting date for the position is September 1, 1997.
 
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field by the
starting date of the position.  We are seeking candidates with a primary
specialization in syntax, as well as additional expertise in one or more
of the following areas: language typology, formal semantics,
quantitative sociolinguistics, and bilingualism.  Preference will be
given to candidates with publications beyond the dissertation and
teaching skills of demonstrably high quality.
 
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
