Subject: introductory textbook:syntax
Dear everyone:
I'm looking for an accessible introductory textbook for my
undergraduate course in syntax. For the past three years I have
been using Radford (1981) and (1988) but I have found these
textbooks advanced for my students, whose population now includes
both English L1 and English L2 speakers. I would be grateful for
any suggestions you might have. In your response please indicate
not only the title/s of the textbook/s but also the publisher/s,
the place/s of publication and the ISBN number/s. Please respond
to my e-mail address: <kamwanga at mtb.und.ac.za>. I will post a
summary in due course. Thank you in anticipation for your
assistance.

Subject: QUERY: LOANWORDS
I am posting this query on behalf of Catherine Kitto. Please
address replies to her at <cjk at antnov1.auckland.ac.nz> or to me.
_______
Dear LINGUISTs,
I am writing a dissertation on the phonology of loanwords,
especially in the Polynesian group of languages. I have not been
able to find many in-depth works that deal with loanwords from a
phonological point-of-view. Could you please tell me if you know
of any such work, or if you are researching a related area.
I am especially interested in any work (past or current) that
looks at loanwords in the Austronesian family, especially the
Polynesian sub-group.
Many thanks to you all.
Catherine Kitto.
