First of all: sorry to all of you who received a totally
incomprehensible message. We are all new to this e-mail stuff and are
still trying to find the best way of sending messages to a lot of
addresses at the same time. This is what you were meant to read:
We are pleased to announce the date of the 6th Manchester University
Postgraduate Linguistics Conference. It will take place on Saturday
15th March 1997 at the University of Manchester.
Guest Speaker:
Melissa Bowerman
of the Max Planck Institute who will give a talk on psycholinguistics
Call for papers: abstracts are invited from postgraduate students on
any area of linguistics. They should be no more than 200 words and
should be sent camera-ready on A4 paper.
Closing date for abstracts: 31st January 1997
Early Registration Fee: 5 pounds
Late registration Fee ( after 28th February): 8 pounds

The fourth Seoul International Conference on Linguistics (SICOL-'97)
August 11 - August 15, 1997

THE LINGUISTIC SOCIETY OF KOREA

SOGANG UNIVERSITY, SEOUL, KOREA
The Linguistic Society of Korea is organizing The Fourth Seoul International
Conference on Linguistics (SICOL-'97) under the general theme of "The
Prospect of Language Studies in the 21st Century." The conference will
consist of (1) a series of forum lectures for the plenary session by invited
leading scholars, (2) general sesssions for presentation of submitted
papers, and (3) special sessions focusing on the following topics: (i) Space
Semantics, (ii) Phonetics in Phonology, (iii) Ellipsis in Syntax and Semantics.

CALL FOR PAPERS
People who are interested in presenting their papers on any topic related to
linguistics are encouraged to submit anonymous copies of a one-page abstract
with a separate name card (name, affiliation, address, telephone number,
paper title, email address) by Feb 28, 1997. Please identify an appropriate
session (either genral or special) on the abstract submitted. Selected
papers will be notified by Mar. 30, 1997. Each paper will be alloted 30
minutes for presentation and discussion. Please do not email or fax your
abstract.
