LOCALISATION RESOURCES CENTRE (Dublin, Ireland)
===============================================

Ireland is the world's number one location for the localisation of software.
The Localisation Resources Centre acts as a support centre and focal
point for the localisation industry which is Ireland's fastest growing
software development sector.

The Localisation Resources Centre has recently been established at University
College Dublin under Forbairt's Technology Centres Programme with financial
assistance from the European Regional Development Fund. The establishment
of the Centre had the expressed support of 13 software publishers and
localisation service providers, as well as the National Software Directorate
and the Software Localisation Interest Group (SLIG).

The Centre's key activities cover research, development and evaluation of
localisation tools, the establishment of a Localisation Tools Library,
consultancy services, education and training, regular publications and
support to the Software Localisation Interest Group (SLIG).

The Localisation Resources Centre is also involved in projects proposed
to the Commission of the European Communities under the 4th Framework
Programme.

We are now looking for a number of key staff.

Administrative Assistant (Ref. Admin/01)
- ----------------------
The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day
functioning of the Localisation Resources Centre, including administrative
support for a range of key projects. The successful candidate will deal
with senior staff in the localisation industry and be required to work on
his/her own initiative within a defined framework.

Applicants will be articulate, and have proven organisational
and administrative skills. They will be computer literate and proficient
in word processing, data base applications and presentation software
packages.

Knowledge of the Irish localisation industry and a foreign language would
be an advantage.

Starting salary will be in the region of #11.000.

Localisation Automation Specialist (Ref. LAS/01)
- --------------------------------
Working closely with the Centre's management, this post involves responsibility
for the evaluation of localisation tools, for the Localisation Tools Library,
and the maintenance (but not necessarily set-up) of the Centre's worldwide web
site. The successful candidate will be required to design and implement
detailed evaluation procedures based on clients' requirements and in accordance
with international standards. There will be regular and direct contact with
clients involving occasional overseas travel.

Applicants will have a proven record in software development using state
of the art development tools. An awareness of internationalisation and
localisation issues and knowledge of at least one major foreign language
are required.

Experience with localisation tools, e.g. in the area of testing (QA/QC) and
translating would be a distinct advantage.

Starting salary will be in the region of #17.800.

Initially, the above posts will be offered on a two year, full-time contract
basis.

Localisation Consultants
- ----------------------
The Localisation Resources Centre is drawing up a panel of Localisation
Consultants to work on industry and EU Commission contracts. Consultants
will work independently on specific projects, supported by the Centre's
staff and infrastructure.

Expertise in at least one of the following areas is required:

SCHOOL OF ORIENTAL AND AFRICAN STUDIES
University of London

Lectureship in Applied Japanese Linguistics
(PENDING FUNDING)

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Applied Linguistics
(the post is equivalent to Assistant Professor) in the Department of the
 Languages and Cultures of East Asia from September 1996.  The successful
candidate will be expected to teach and convene Europe's first MA in
Applied Japanese Linguistics as well as key language courses at BA level
and Japanese language programmes for non-degree students offered by the
SOAS Language Centre.  Candidates will be expected to have expertise in
language teaching methodology and be able to assume a co-ordinating role
for all the School's Japanese language programmes.

Candidates will have native or near-native fluency in Japanese, a PhD or
ABD, or equivalent, in Applied Japanese Linguistics, and a proven teaching
and publication record.

The appointment will be made on the Lecturer A scale (stlg15,154 -stlg19,848
p.a.) or Lecturer B scale (stlg20,677-stlg26,430 p.a.), depending on
qualifications and experience, plus London Allowance of stlg2,134 p.a.
Membership of USS will be encouraged.
