                     Job Announcement for Fall 1996
 
               Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
                       National Chiao Tung University
                           Hsinch, Taiwan, R.O.C.
 
The Department plans to fill a number of teaching positions in the following
fields:
 
1. Anglo-American literature, literature and film, literature and philosophy,
   multiculturalism.
 
2. Computational linguistics, cognitive linguistics, discourse and grammar(
   or alternative syntax), socio linguistics.
 
Appointees will be required to conduct individual and collaborative research,
teach specialized as well as language proficiency courses(including translation
), participate in curriculum development, and perform some administrative
duties.
 
Candiates must have Ph.D. degrees by the time of appointment, which is
scheduled for August, 1996. Appointments will be made at the ranks of
Assistant Professor-ship(pending government approval), Associate
Professorship, or Professorship.
Salaries will be based on the government pay scale, and commensurate with
qualfications and experience.

    ANNOUNCEMENT OF TENURE-TRACK POSITION
     UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO
          DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS
 
  The Department of Linguistics at the University of Califor-
  nia, San  Diego has a tenure-track opening at the Assistant
  Professor  level  beginning  September  1996.  We seek a
  specialist in phonology.  Desirable qualifications include a
  background in morphology and a strong language background.
  A  linguistics  Ph.D. is required. Salary is based on
  University of California pay scales.
