We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: language and obesity
Dear Colleagues:
A student in our MA program is trying to find references about the
relationship between obesity and language behaviors. She is currently
particularly interested in phonetic features (acoustic and auditory
features) of obese people's speech sounds. She is planning to record
several obese and normal people's speech (reading of texts, singing,
interview). Recording obese people's speech is planned to take place
in three-month intervals in the course of their counseling.
Any lead to a broader topic of language (ways of speaking) and
clinical conditions of the speaker is welcome.
Thank you in advance.

Subject: Games for Russian Language Teaching
Dear subscribers,
I'm a Russian language instructor from Moldova (former Soviet
Union). I'm interested in didactic games and visual signals (grammar
in pictures) in Russian language teaching, and have some experience
developing and using them. I'm in the US now for a limited time and
need to find professional contacts in my area. Could someone please
point out for me some people in the US or other Western countries who
have interests similar to mine? I would also be very thankful for any
information you could share on the use of grammar games in teaching
Russian or references to related literature.
Please contact me at isolonko at copper.ucs.indiana.edu. If you wish to
send any information after July 26th, please send it to Ari Solovyova
(asolovyo at indiana.edu)!
Thank you very much in advance!
Sincerely,
Irina Solonkova

Subject: Standardized Russian Tests
Dear friends,
If someone knows if there are any standardized Russian tests (similar
to TOEFL) in existence, and how I could get a hold of them, could you
please drop me a line?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Sincerely,
Irina Solonkova
