AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR APPLIED LINGUISTICS
1997 CALL FOR PAPERS
Saturday, March 8, - Tuesday, March 11, 1997
Holiday Inn International Drive Resort
Orlando, Florida
All papers in the field of applied linguistics are welcome. ABSTRACTS
are invited for individual papers and colloquia on topics in applied
linguistics, including language acquisition and socialization,
discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, second and
foreign language pedagogy, literacy, language for specific purposes,
assessment, language policy and planning, rhetoric and stylistics,
translation and interpretation. AAAL has decided that individuals
will be allowed one place on the program, either in a paper or as a
colloquium presenter. (A person may, in addition to these
possibilities, be a designated discussant or session chair.) If you
have both a paper and a colloquium presentation accepted, the Program
Committee will ask you to choose between the two.
INDIVIDUAL PAPERS will be 20 minutes long, with 10 minutes for
discussion. Send 4 copies of a typed double-spaced abstract no more
than 250 words or 2 pages long. In the upper left-hand corner of two
copies, place the submitter's name, address, phone and fax number,
e-mail address, and institutional affiliation. Do not put any
identification on the other two copies. In additional, submit a
50-word typed single spaced summary, headed by the name and
affiliation of each presenter together with the title of the paper.
This summary will appear in the conference program exactly as it is
submitted.
COLLOQUIA proposals are invited for blocks of time up to 3 hours.
Colloquia organizers may divide up their block(s) of time as they see
fit, but time should be adequately allocated for opening and closing
remarks, presentations, discussants, and audience response. A
colloquium proposal should include the following:
1) Four copies of a 50-word typed single-spaced description of the
entire colloquium, which will appear as submitted in the conference
program
2) Four copies of a 250-word typed double spaced abstract for EACH
INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION (In the upper left-hand corner of the first
two copies, place the submitter's name, address, phone and fax number,
e-mail address, and institutional affiliation.)
3) A 50-word typed single-spaced summary for EACH INDIVIDUAL
PRESENTATION, headed by the name and affiliation of each presenter
together with the title of the paper. (This summary will appear in
the conference program exactly as it is submitted.)
4) A cover letter from the organizer bearing the organizer's name,
address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address, institutional
affiliation of all participants, an explanation of how the individual
presentations relate to one another, and to the theme of the
colloquium.
5) A tentative breakdown of the requested time block into component
activities.
Abstracts and participant information for all presentations in a
colloquium must be submitted together.
All submissions should include a stamped self-addressed postcard for
confirmation of receipt of your submissions.
Mail or fax individual paper abstracts and colloquia proposals to:
