Lectureship in Linguistics
The Department of Phonetics and Linguistics invites
applications for a Lectureship in Linguistics. Candidates are
expected to have a doctorate in linguistics, and the
successful candidate will have a strong research record in
current syntactic theory. He or she will be expected to teach
both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in syntax, and to
supervise research in this area. Applications from candidates
with an ability to teach formal semantics will be particularly
welcomed.
The department is an outstanding centre of teaching and
research and an essential part of the successful candidate's
work will be to carry out and publish first class research. He
or she will also be expected to play a role in the
administrative and pastoral activities of the department.
The appointment will be from 1 September 1997 for five years
initially and will be made at the Lecturer level, most
probably at the Lecturer A grade. The current salary scales
are: Lecturer A =9C15,593 - =9C20,424 pa; Lecturer B =9C21,277 -
=9C27,196 pa, plus London allowance, currently =9C2,134 pa.
Membership of USS will be available.
