We'd appreciate your limiting conference announcements to 150 lines,
so that we can post more than 1 per issue. Please consider omitting
information useful only to attendees, such as information on housing,
transportation, or rooms and times of sessions. Please do not use
abbreviations or acronyms for your conference unless you explain
them in your text. Many people outside your area of specialization
will not recognize them. Thank you for your cooperation.

- PLENARIES: prof. Helge Ritter: Learning with the parameterized
self-organizing map
prof. Karl Goser: Self-organizing map for
intelligent process control
prof. Marie Cottrell: Theoretical aspects of
the SOM algorithm
- INVITED: prof. Risto Miikkulainen: SOM research in the USA
prof. Heizo Tokutaka: Condensed review of SOM and
LVQ research in Japan
- SESSIONS: Pattern recognition and Optimization
signal processing
Monitoring and data mining Financial analysis
Temporal sequence processing Image analysis and vision
Theory and extensions Probabilistic
interpretations
Text and document maps Hardware
- PANEL: Document search
- SOM CLINIC: Practical advice is given during the breaks
- BANQUET: Dinner speech by Robert Hecht-Nielsen:
A neural network saga
- DEMONSTRATIONS
WSOM'97 is a unique occasion for anyone who
- is looking for efficient means for analyzing and visualizing
complex real-world data, or
- wishes to gain new insight into the newest applications of the SOM.
