Subject: OCR for ancient language texts
I am wondering if anyone knows about scanning and OCR for ancient
language texts in Classical Greek, Koine Greek, Biblical Hebrew,
Coptic, Syriac.
This would ideally take place on a Mac.
Any suggestions - contacts, software, editing processes would be
appreciated.
Please respond to me directly (bmhughes at ozemail.com.au) rather than to
the whole list.
TIA
Baden

Subject: Qs: origin augmentativ/pejorative suffixes
Hello everybody!
In my dissertation I am dealing with the development of diminutives,
augmentatives, pejoratives in the Romance languages. Since I don't
want to work unidimensionally I am very very interested in the
universal meaning, origin etc. of augmentative/pejorative elements.
So, if anyone of you out there could give me some bibliographical
indications about these elements/suffixes in other languages than
Romance worldwide ( afro-asiatic, amerindian languages etc.) I would
be very happy. It would help me a lot!
Thank you!

Subject: Query: attitudes towards nonstandard varieties in mass media
Dear linguists,
A colleague and myself are currently working on a paper dealing with
"attitudes towards young people's language in Greek mass media".
In this connection we are looking for (recent) research on the way
attitudes towards nonstandard varieties of language (e.g. dialects,
sociolects, slang,...) are expressed in mass media, esp. in
newspapers.
It goes without saying that a summary will be posted.
Thanks in advance
Best
