Subject: SSA Meeting/Louisville

The Semiotic Society of America will hold its annual meeting this year
October 23-26 in Louisville, Kentucky. The topic is CREATIVITY. The
schedule is laced with creative performances and perspectives on the
creative process in general.

The site will be the historic Chamberley Brown Hotel in Louisville's
central busiess district. It is within walking distance of the Kentucky
Center for the Arts, Main Street (with the largest collection of 19th
century cast iron building facades next to the SoHo district in New York),
Actor's Theater, and other cultural attractions.

Information follows:


Hotel Information

The meeting site is the Camberly Brown Hotel, which is listed by the
National Trust for Historical Preservation as one of the distinguished
Historic Hotels of America.  The hotel is located downtown at Fourth &
Broadway in the heart of the Theater Square, two minutes via trolley from
the Convention  Center and Shopping and Business Districts.  You can make a
reservation by calling 502-583-1234 or 800-555-8000.  Be sure to identify
your association with the SSA annual meeting in order to get the conference
room rates, which are:

Single/double occupancy:  $99
Triple:  $114
Quad:    $129

(Add 12.36% state and local occupancy taxes to the above rates.)  These
rates apply two days before and after the official dates of the conference.
All confirmed reservations will be held until 4:00 PM on the scheduled day
of arrival.  If arrival is to occur after 4:00 PM, you must make prior
arrangements in the form of an advance deposit or credit card information.
The hotel accepts Mastercard, Visa, Discover Card, Diner's Club, Carte
Blanche, and American Express.

Hotel check in time is 3:00 PM.

Indoor parking in a garage adjacent to the Hotel is available at $10 per
day for hotel guests.  Complementary transportation is available to and
from Louisville International Airport, located 7 miles from the hotel.

Membership in the SSA is open to all interested parties.  Membership
includes a subscription to the SSA newsletter, "Semiotic Scene" and its

Thursday, October 23 Keynote Address on the theme of creativity by Mihaly
Csikszentmihalyi, Professor Psychology, University of Chicago.  His talk
will begin at 8:00 PM in the Bluegrass Room of the Camberly Brown Hotel,
and will be followed by a reception at "the Gallery" on the 16th floor of
the hotel.  We encourage everyone to come to Louisville early and
participate in these opening activities.
