We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: Journal Volume on RT: Bibliography
Dear all,
As you probably know already, Dr. Jose Mateo and me are the editors of
a special volume of our International Journal REVISTA ALICANTINA DE
ESTUDIOS INGLESES (R.A.E.I.), which will be devoted entirely to
RELEVANCE THEORY.
The deadline for submission of manuscripts has now expired.
Nevertheless, this volume will have a bibliographical section at the
end in which we will list, according to different topics, (most of)
all the bibliography available on RT (or studies taking RT as
theoretical framework). Headings for this bibliography will be, for
example:
RT and grammar
RT and the media
RT and literature
RT and humour
RT and translation
(etc.) We have already collected about 400 references for
this bibliographical list. If any of you has any RT-related study,
which you think is hard to find, and you would like it to appear in
this bibliography, please e-mail its reference to me as soon as you
can.
Cordially,
-

Information requested on whether there exists a dictionary of the
Trieste dialect of Italian and if so, I would be very grateful for
detailed references.

Subject: Ellipsis in the Second Independent Clause
I would appreciate anyone's comments who could tell me if the
following sentence is possible as it is, without restating the word
"weren't" after the word "all" in the second independent clause.
Could you be so kind as to tell me where I might find a rule for this
type of ellipsis?
"He might have even helped out a fellow just like before if the wood
weren't warped and it all so perverse"
Thank you and Happy Holidays.
Kathleen O'Connor
