I would like to echo Alex Grosu's (whom I not seen also for many a
year) comments about Bob Lees. In 1964-67, Lees camped out on my
living room floor in Ankara, Turkey three-four times. He was a
wonderful, eccentric, warm personality. Each time, we spent several
hours talking--mostly his expounding on various issues in language and
linguistics and social change. He made a great impression on me.
Later I had the good fortune to continue the friendship, albeit for a
short time in Israel in 1967-70. It was three decades ago, yet his
presence makes it seem like yesterday. A.
