                     BAAL Book Prize 1997

Nominations are invited for the 1997 BAAL Book Prize.

Each year the British Association for Applied Linguistics makes an
award to an outstanding book in Applied Linguistics published in
English in the previous year.

The BAAL Book Prize 1996 was awarded to:

    Deborah Cameron (1995) Verbal Hygiene. London: Routledge.

The shortlist also included:

    Mike Baynham (1995) Literacy Practices: investigating literacy in
    social contexts. London: Longman

    Ben Rampton (1995) Crossing: language and ethnicity among
    adolescents. London: Longman

    Patrick Stevenson (1995) (ed) The German Language and the Real
    World: sociolinguistic, cultural, and pragmatic perspectives
    on contemporary German. Oxford: Clarendon Press

Entries for this year's prize should be notified to the BAAL
Publications Secretary by March 3rd 1997. Nominations must be
made by publishers and four copies of each title, together with
an administration fee to the value of 25 pounds sterling will be
required. If you are the author of an important text in Applied
Linguistics (in the broadest sense) published last year then
please forward this notice to your publisher. Books published in
English outside the UK are welcomed.

The award will be announced at the BAAL Annual Meeting in
September 1997.
