Subject:  English teaching job

  We would like to announce the EFL teaching job position in Seoul,
South Korea. Korea University, one of the top universities in Korea, is
looking for native speakers of English who can teach English
conversations at the college level, mostly freshmen, beginning this
 September. Those who cannot teach beginning this September, but are
interested in teaching beginning March, 1998 are also greatly
encouraged to apply for the job.
There
are already 25 English native speakers at Korea University (KU)
teaching English, and KU is looking for  more faculty members. AS
recently reported in the Washington Post (May issue), many native
speakers of English from U.S. or Canada are coming to Korea to teach
English and enjoy life here in Korea and make good money, in addition to
earning
EFL teaching experiences. The followings are the short descriptions of the
job.

REQUIREMENT
: must have a M.S. or M.A. in either in TESOL or Applied LInguistics. (or
who is in the final semester of his/her program and is interested in
gathering the data here for the thesis. Actually, one of the English
teachers at KU is writing her thesis based on the data she has been
gathering in class. She is interested in comparing the American culture
and
Korean culture, Sociolinguistics students might be interested in the
similar topic).

DESCRIPTION
1. Contract Term: initially appointed for a period of 1 year, renewable by
mutual consent.

2.Salary: $2,200 per month
Bonuses: first year of employment: 3 months salary
      second and subsequent years of employment: 4 months salary
Plus Severance Pay of one month's salary for each complete year worked.
Salary and bonuses will be paid without deduction of Korean taxes for the
first two years of employment.

3. Holiday: 2 months paid holiday per year

4. health Insurance: good quality and reasonably priced. $ 14 per month,
including routine dental treatment, covering 50 % of medical costs for
treatment of minor ailments such as influenza and 80 % of the costs for
serious illness.

5.Housing: The University provides fully furnished dormitory for Foreign
Language teachers, which is within walking distance of the campus.
$330.00 per month, exclusive of utilities. Fully furnished with TV set,
telephone, one set of bed linen, and cooking and eating utensils. A common
laundry room is provided with coin-operated washing machines and dryers.
The interested applicant may arrange his or her own accommodation if he or
she wishes.

6.  Air fare ticket will be paid by the University.

7. Working Hours and Teaching: 16 hours per week and may also be required
to teach 1-5 hours of overtime, for which the standard overtime rate will
be received.
The autumn Term starts at the end of August and ends at mid DEcember.
Spring term runs from the beginning of March to the end of June.
Most of the students in class are freshmen, and the class is most focused
on
English conversations.

             Universitaet des Saarlandes, Saarbruecken, Germany

A position of a researcher in computational linguists is available,
in a collaboration with computer science. The position is part of
the CHORUS project

in the Special Research Division (SFB) 378, funded by the German
Science Foundation (DFG). The successful candidate is supposed to
develop algorithms and architectures for semantic processing of
natural language. Experience in some of the following areas is
required:

   - constraints and unification
   - natural language processing
   - progamming in high-level languages

Applicants should be graduated or hold a Ph.D in computer science
or computational linguistics.

Duration:     16 months, extendible to 5 years
Salary:       BAT2a (DM 60000-75000 per annum)
Begin:        preferably September 1, 1997 or slightly later

Saarbruecken offers an excellent research environment in both computer
science and computational linguistics. Research in these fields is
conducted at the Universitaet des Saarlandes, the German Center for
Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and the Max-Planck Institute for
