diachronic aspects of Chinese phonology.  The contributions present

The economic boom of Southeast China has given both the region and its

become an increasingly important language on the world stage, this
development has not spurred any major publications on Cantonese
phonology. This volume presents an analysis of modern Cantonese. It
describes the consonants, vowels, and tones of the contemporary

types of changes that can occur when syllables are strung together in
