Subject: Pragmatics/Discourse Analysis
The Department of Linguistics, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
seeks applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor
beginning August 16, 1997.
Applicants must hold the Ph.D. in Linguistics or a closely related field by
the time of appointment with a specialization in developmental pragmatics
and/or discourse analysis preferred. Duties include teaching undergraduate
and M.A.level courses, conducting related research, and serving on student
and departmental committees.

Subject: Syntax-semantics replacement position at Minnesota
The Program in Linguistics at the University of Minnesota anticipates a
temporary, 9-month non-tenure-track replacement position in syntax and
semantics (at the assistant professor level). At time of application,
applicants must have Ph.D. in linguistics, at least 1 year college or
university level teaching experience, and demonstrable accomplishments in
teaching & scholarship. The position runs 16 Sept '97 to 15 June '98 and
requires maintaining research activity, advising graduate students, serving
on departmental committees, and teaching 5 courses over 3 quarters.
Courses include undergraduate introduction to linguistics and undergraduate
and graduate courses in syntax and semantics/pragmatics.. To apply send
CV, sample publications, and 3 letters of recommendation to Jeanette
