We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

A graduate student (Masters' candidate) in one of my Linguistics
courses is thinking of pursuing a Ph.D. in the areas of stylistics
and/or literary pragmatics. She would like to know what
Ph.D. programs are out there which have specializations in the
application of linguistic concepts to the analysis of literary texts.
Her main interest is English literature, so I assume the most
appropriate sort of program for her will turn out to be in an English
department (rather than in a Linguistics dept.), but any suggestions
would be appreciated. She's willing to relocate pretty much anywhere
in the US, but would prefer to remain in the country.
Please reply to me directly.
Thank you very much,
Rich Epstein.

I am wondering if anybody in this list has information about the
sound changes in Cantonese. Any references relating to
socilinguistics factors on tonal changes will be
appreciated. Please send mails to lnp6bwsy at leeds.ac.uk
Thank you in advance

Does anyone know:
1. Where tape recorded and/or downloadable samples of the above
can be obtained?
2. Of any developing/pre-existing speech archive of the same
resides?
