Subject: Acoustic Phonetics, Hebrew (U. Kansas)
The Linguistics Department at The University of Kansas invites
applications for a tenure-track position in acoustic phonetics at the
rank of Assistant Professor starting August 16, 1998, subject to
budgetary approval. A Ph.D. in Linguistics or related area is
required. The ideal candidate should have a strong record of funded
research in acoustic analysis. The appointee will participate in the
development of an undergraduate course sequence in acoustic
phonetics. It is essential that the successful candidate also be able
to teach introductory linguistics as well as courses in another area
of linguistics (e.g., phonology, field methods, or Native American

The Linguistics Department at the University of Kansas seeks
applications for a lectureship or graduate teaching assistantship in
Modern Israeli Hebrew for the spring semester of 1998 (with
possibility of renewal in subsequent years). The duties will include
teaching two sections of Intermediate Hebrew meeting three hours per
week, as well as keeping scheduled office hours and assisting with
departmental duties as needed. Appointment begins Jan. 1, 1998.
Required qualifications include native or near-native proficiency in
Modern Israeli Hebrew, graduate student status (for a GTAship) at the
University of Kansas, familiarity with Israeli culture, and a score on
the Test of Spoken English of at least 240. Preferred qualifications
include training and experience in language teaching.
The salary for a GTAship is $2,337.50 per semester, and includes a
tuition waiver; for a lectureship, it is $2,500 per course, with
benefits eligibility.
