We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

I am curreently looking for different English translations of
contemporary French novels. They should be done by different people (not
re-edittings. Any titles in mind (best of all if the translators are
from the same country- whichever)) ?
Thank you.

Subject: Help with Japanese Linguistics?
I am going to try to look at the processing of speech between
bilinguals that may contain code-switched items with the hope of
saying something about the mental organization of bilingual lexicons.
I want to use a lexical decision task, so I'll need to
construct nonsense words in English and Japanese. How can I determine
which constructed words are Japanese pseudowords?
Can anyone recommend introductory readings in Japanese syntax,
phonology, and/or prosody?
Does anyone have any general advice?
Thank you,
Sally Davis
