Subject:  Swearing and Obituaries in Arabic

Dear Colleages,

I am working on two topics in relation to Arabic, namely "Swearing, a
sociolinguistic study..." ( Swearing here refers to uttering different
kinds of oaths when somebody says something, esp. religious terms and
terms related to dear ones.). The second topic is "Obituary
annoncements" which are very elaborate and common in Arabic, esp. in
Jordan. I am looking for published or unpublished works on these two
areas, in other languages.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Subject:  Modern Hebrew corpus

Dear colleagues,

I am looking for a corpus of modern Hebrew text to be used as a part
of a psycholinguistic investigation of word recognition and lexical
processes in Hebrew.  A corpus with some morphological tagging of
words would be preferable but any reasonably large corpus would also
do.

If you have any information or pointers, please respond to me by
email.

Subject:  Double Object Construction


I'm doing research on Double Object Construction. My proposal is that
there is a preposition incorporation process from "give an apple to
Mary" to "give Mary an apple". In the process, preposition "to" is
incorporated into the verb "give".  Then I can solve Larson's puzzle
(1991,LI)-Shifting control. Examples like, Mary promised John
permission to leave. "Promise" is a subject control verb, while this
sentence behaves as object control. Larson has to resort to semantic
interpretaton, which reduces his Double Object theory. I assume that
there is a noun incorporation in the sentence. The noun "permission"
is incorporated to the verb " promise".  The complex verb is like an
object control verb " permit". In deep structure, the sentence is
really an object control. The proposal above is only part of my M.A
thesis. All kinds of critics are welcome.
