Translation Systems Specialis (TSS)

Job description:

Develop and implement corporate translation business processes,
including  multilingual terminology management, linguistic software
applications, translation quality control, and translation purchasing
procedures.

Minimum qualifications:

1. M.A. in Linguistics, English, or a foreign language.
2. Native or near-native fluency in English and at least one European
language
   (French or German preferred).
3. Excellent organizational/management skills.

Additional desirable skills:

1. Translation experience
2. Experience in developing web-based applications
3. Experience in computer programming or machine translation
4. Knowledge of computational linguistics
5. Good teaching skills
6. Technical automotive knowledge

Subject:  Visiting Positions in Phonology and Semantics

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst
anticipates two sabbatical replacement positions available for 1998-99,
contingent on funding.

Phonology:  one-semester replacement position as visiting assistant
professor in Fall 1998.  Specialization in phonological theory, with
strength in phonetics a plus.  Ph.D. must be completed by September
1998.

Semantics:  one-semester replacement position as visiting assistant
professor in Spring 1999.  Specialization in formal semantics.  Ph.D.
must be completed by September 1998.

Review of applications will begin on March 2, 1998 and will continue
until the position is filled.  A letter of application, vita, sample
papers or publications, and three letters of recommendation should be
