Senior Management Position in Computational Linguistics/Computer Science
Logos Corporation, a small, well-established, expanding company
specializing in NLP for
international markets is seeking to fill a position as Director of its
40-person Technology Center. This Center is located in a pleasant
residential area in Northern New Jersey about one hour from New York
City. The Company maintains offices in Europe and is internationally
regarded as a
technology leader with products in use by multinationals in a dozen
nations. The Company is
looking for a director under whose leadership this technology can
go forward.
Candidate should have:
- advanced degree in computational linguistics with good knowledge of
programming (C, C++, Java, and familiarity with relational and
object-oriented DBMS); or, an advanced degree in computer science with a
strong NLP orientation; or, the equivalent in strong NLP experience.
- proven management skills
- at least ten years experience in NLP
- fluency in English and in one or more of the following: German, French,
or Spanish
- familiarity with Internet/Intranet client-server technology.
- familiarity with any of the following areas would be considered an
important plus:
corpus based linguistics; lexical extraction tools; bilingual text
alignment; stochastic methods, neural nets, etc.
The Director will be expected to provide technological leadership both in
product design and in development of underlying technology, as well as
have overall administrative responsibility for the Technology Center.
Group leaders responsible for (1) linguistic development, (2) systems
development and maintenance, and (3) product testing and support will
report directly to the Director.

to fill one or more positions for computational linguist. This company

Candidate should have the following:
- advanced degree in computational linguistics, with strong programming
skills.
- fluency in English-French.
- familiarity with such areas as parsing, corpus-based linguistics,
stochastic methods, neural nets, machine learning, etc. will be
considered a strong plus.
- willingness to travel (Paris)
Chosen candidates will be working in such areas as: French source
analysis; processing of large corpora for lexical and grammatical data
extraction; development tools for semi-automating the building of a
knowledge base in a hybrid symbol/neural net architecture, etc. Other
areas of possible involvement: discourse (extra-sentential) analysis;
semantic networks; automatic abstracting; speech recognition.
Salary commensurate with education and experience. Compensation package

Subject: Psycholinguistics/Computational Linguistics/Cognitive Neuroscience
The Program in Linguistics at the University of Michigan invites
applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor whose
language research and teaching skills are focused on psycholinguistics,
computational linguistics, or cognitive neuroscience. The position
includes 1/2 time teaching responsibilities (one course per semester) and
1/2 time research as the Language Learning Visiting Research Assistant
Professor. We seek outstanding applicants with a strong research and
teaching record who are especially interested in interacting with an
active group of faculty and students with interdisciplinary interests. A
Ph.D. by the start of the appointment in September, 1998, is required.

letters of recommendation should be sent to Professor Marilyn Shatz,
Director, Program in Linguistics, The University of Michigan, 1076 Frieze
