Subject:   computer storage media for fieldwork?

For mass data storage during extended fieldwork, I am considering two
types of media:
 - writeable CD-ROMs (optical)
 - capacious removable disks such as Jaz or Sparq disks (magnetic)

I would like advice on the robustness of these media (and the hardware
necessary to record them) to climatic extremes of temperature and
humidity, as well as the risks of transportation, airport scanning,

Subject:  The Lenk language

Dear colleagues,

Could anyone point out to me any information about the Lenk (or Rusin)
language (a Slavic language spoken in Transcarpathian region, situated
in Western Ukraine bordering with Romania, Hungary and Slovakia)?
Until about 1990 its existence as a separate language has not been
officially recognized and it is still seriously endangered. It was
widely used until 1945 and since then it has been superseded by
Ukrainian. I'd appreciate any piece of information.
