UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD
TWO LECTURESHIPS IN ITALIAN

The Department of Modern Languages and the European Studies Research
Institute

We are seeking to make two appointments for the 1998/99 academic
year.  It is anticipated that one appointment will be of a native
speaker of English capable of teaching translation into English and
Liaison Interpreting, as well as Italian Language to ab initio
students.

The second post will be for a lecturer able to teach any area of
Italian language from beginners to degree level.  Native or
native-like competence in spoken and written Italian is a
requirement.

The successful candidates will be expected to develop a specialism
relating to their own research interests and one or more of the
undergraduate or postgraduate courses taught in the Department.  There
may also be the opportunity of teaching translation at postgraduate
level.

The lecturers appointed will be research-active in an area of Italian
Studies appropriate to any of the centres of the European Studies
Research Institute (ESRI), viz., Literary and Cultural Studies,
Language and Linguistics, Contemporary History and Politics.  The
Department is the largest constituent member of ESRI, which was
graded 5A in the 1996 RAE.

Commencing salary on the Lecturer A/B Salary Scale (up to 21,436/up
to 28,545).

Im SFB 471 Variation und Entwicklung im Lexikon der Universitaet
Konstanz ist im Teilprojekt A5/Pause zum 1.8.98 die 3/4 Stelle einer/

wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiterin/ Mitarbeiters

befristet bis zum 31.12.99 zu besetzen. In dieser Zeit kann die Stelle
fuer 10 Monate als ganze Stelle bezahlt werden. Das Projekt soll fuer

Aufgabengebiet: Untersuchungen zur Polysemie von Verben

aequivalenten Titel besitzen), seinen Schwerpunkt in der theoretischen
Linguistik und Semantik haben; eine Kompetenz in computerlinguistischen
Implementierungen ist wuenschenswert.

Subject:  PT Lecturer in (TESL) English phonetics/phonology

Lecturer Position for TESL English Phonetics/Phonology Course

The Center for Graduate and Continuing Education at Mary Washington College
is soliciting applications to teach one course of Applied
Phonetics/Phonology for its new graduate-level TESL Certificate Program.
The course will meet once per week in the Fall Semester of 1998.  The time
has not been scheduled but it will be during the evening (or possibly
during the day on the weekend), starting in the fall (date flexible).
The course will be offered, pending sufficient enrollment.  Since this is
a new program, opportunities exist to teach other courses in the future.

Prospective candidates should have at least a master's degree in
Linguistics, TESL, or related field; ABD or Ph.D. preferred.  Successful
candidates should have not only the prerequisite background knowledge,
but will also have the capability to connect English phonetics and
phonology with applications to the ESL classroom.  Some ESL or EFL
experience is a plus.

Interested candidates should send (1) a cover letter; (2) a CV;
(3) some documentation of relevant teaching experience (such as student
evaluations of teaching).  These materials should be received by August 7,
1998 at the address listed below.

Mary Washington College is located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, about an
