invites applications for the position of a
*** SALES AND MARKETING MANAGER***
ELRA was established in February 1995, with the support of the European
Commission, to promote the development and exploitation of Language
Resources (LRs). Language Resources include all data necessary for language
engineering, such as monolingual and multilingual lexica, text corpora,
speech databases and terminology. The role of the non-profit membership
Association is to promote the production of LRs, to collect and to validate
them and, foremost, make them available to users. The association also
gathers information on market needs and trends.
ELDA is ELRA's operational body and is responsible for the development and
execution of the ELRA strategies and plans. ELDA handles the practical and
legal concerns connected with the distribution of resources and provides
legal advice to ELRA members and suppliers in these areas. In addition, the
company drafts and concludes distribution agreements on behalf of ELRA.
ELDA has an immediate vacancy for a Sales & Marketing Manager. He/She will
help manage the activities of the Association, contributing to the work of
the small support team, and implementing the commercial strategy of ELRA.
This yields excellent opportunities for young, creative, and motivated
candidates wishing to participate actively in establishing/building the
European Union Language Engineering field. This is initially a two-year
appointment with a strong possibility of permanent employment.
- Responsibilities--
Under the supervision of the CEO, the responsibilities of the Sales &
Marketing Manager will cover:
* Monitoring Market requirements and developing Market strategies. Interact
with relevant players (i.e.: producers, owners and users of LRs who may be
in the industrial, commercial or academic world; or in governmental and
non-governmental agencies).
* Actively marketing LRs, i.e. advertising and demonstrating LRs,
negotiating sales, keeping track of sales figures and business projections,
* Preparing the PR material, including editorial work of a quarterly newsletter
- Qualifications--
The successful candidate will have:
*Excellent track records in Sales and Marketing.
*Good records in Language Engineering or related fields.
*Extensive commercial and/or marketing experience in marketing LRs,
software or other forms of intellectual property.
*Citizenship of (or residency papers) an EU country.
*the Ability to work in at least two European languages (English and French
being essential)
Terms and conditions of employment will be subject to negotiation but will
commensurate with the responsibilities of the post, and will include
performance-based incentives. The position is based in Paris and ELRA/ELDA
is prepared to pay for Relocation expenses.

contribute to the work of a small support team in the development of the
infrastructure for the collection, validation, and licensing of LR and in
the interactions with the relevant players (i.e. producers, owners and users
of LR who may be in the industrial, commercial or academic world; and
governmental and non-governmental agencies), with a particular focus on
textual and terminological resources.
This yields excellent opportunities for young, creative, and motivated
candidates wishing to participate actively in establishing/building the
European Union Language Engineering field. This is initially a two-year

- -Qualifications---
The successful candidate will have:
Excellent track records in Language Engineering and related fields.
Technical experience in design and development of Language Engineering
solutions (preference for candidates with experience in the fields of
written text and/or terminology).
Experience in collecting, validating, and marketing language resources,
software or other forms of intellectual property.
Experience in packaging language resources for distribution using CD-ROM,
ftp facilities, etc.. will be a plus.
Citizenship of(or residency papers for) an EU country.
Ability to work in at least two European languages (English and French
being essential).

one-year Fulbright professor's position open for 1999-2000. Formal
