We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

I am trying to contact the organisers of the D.E.B.R.A. conference
held in Italy- possibly Sicily in November 1997. Can anyone put me in
touch with the organisers or give me any other further information.

Many thanks

Subject: Favorite Books on Grammar etc 1996-1998

Dear colleagues,

A FAQ of my students is: "Which recently published book on grammar
(typology in its broadest sense, morphology, syntax, also language
descriptions etc...) is currently the favorite among linguists?" I
must admit, I don't know. So I dare to address the public: Would you
mind to tell which book (on the topics mentioned above and published
say from 1996 to 1998) you would place at the top of your top tens?
Please mention only one! In case I can extract any relevant statistics
from the answers on this query, I'll post it on the list.

Many thanks in advance,
Wolfgang

I have a student who is working on Spanglish. Can anyone help with
some references to useful articles that dig a little deeper into the
subject than the popular press has? Thanks for whatever suggestions
you can send along.

I am researching for a paper on the Nuristani languages of
Afganistan, specifically looking at the grounds for their
classification (as a separate branch of Indo-Iranian, or other
theories). I have already looked at some writings from Grierson and
Morgenstierne, but if anyone can suggest some more recent works on
this subject, I would appreciate it.

If I get any response I'll be happy to post a summary to the list.
