We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: Qs:Italian Dialects
My name is Giampaolo Poletto, and I would like to know precisely
the way the first twenty numbers are written and pronunciated in
the different Italian Dialects.
I am actually helding a course of Italian Dialectology in Pecs,
Hungary, in the Faculty of Letters of 'Janus Pannonius' University,
and I would be interested in having some precise and updated
information on the matter, as to compare the different outcomes.
It is hard that a single book meets this specific requirement, so any
contribution will be mostly welcomed.

I recall having read recently that studies of aphasia in signers (sign
language users) in Japan had revealed problems in the recognition of words
that were written phonetically (problems of recognition similar to those
experienced by speakers when confronted with written text), but that they
siffered no impairmanet of their ability to recognise ideograms (kanji,
Chinese written characters). Can anyone supply me with any bibliographical
references on this topic?
