Subject: Delaware Book Drives for China and Indonesia

The economic crisis in Asia has made it increasingly difficult for
linguistics programs in third-world Asian countries to acquire books. In
conjunction with its sponsorship of 29th Meeting of the Northeast
Linguistics Society (NELS), the Department of Linguistics at the University
of Delaware is holding a book drive for two third-world linguistics
programs:

*The Linguistics Program of Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP),
Ujung Pandang, Sulawesi, Indonesia (http://www.unhas.ac.id/~ikipup/); and

*The Linguistics Program at Beijing Normal University, Beijing China
(http://www.bnu.edu.cn./eindex.htm).

Both of these programs have asked linguists at the University of Delaware
to assist them in securing donations of linguistics books. Both elementary
linguistics textbooks and more advanced books are needed.

As part of our NELS activities, we are asking linguists to bring one or
more spare linguistics books to NELS or to send them to us at the address
below if you will not be attending.

The University of Delaware has undertaken to ship these books to Indonesia
and China respectively.

Please don't forget to bring or send your book donation. A donation box
will be available next to the NELS registration table. A donation to this
book drive is tax deductible as a donation to the University of Delaware.
