Da Yeh University's nascent English Department has faculty openings
effective Spring and Fall 1999 for Ph.D. holders in Linguistics, EFL,
ESL, TESOL, Education, Literature, and/or related areas of expertise
for permanent appointments at the ranks of Assistant and Associate
Professor. Responsibilities will include teaching (ca. 10 hours per
week), helping the Department establish a course curriculum and
research programs in keeping with its teaching goals, and guiding
graduate and undergraduate research projects.

Qualified applicants should send the following materials (in English) as
soon as possible:

	(1) Curriculum vitae
	(2) Three letters of reference or a placement dossier
	(3) Official transcripts for all coursework, both
	    undergraduate and graduate
	(4) Copies of all diplomas, both undergraduate and graduate
	(5) An autobiographical sketch
	(6) A sample of pertinent research (with abstract)
	(7) For persons in the final stages of work toward the
Ph.D. degree: a letter stating the expected date of
completion of the degree, plus supporting documents from
an official at the respective institution

All application materials should be placed in ONE ENVELOPE and addressed to:

	Dr. Jason (Jhien-Shien) Chen, Director
	Liberal Arts Center
	Da Yeh University
	112 Shan-Jiau Road, Da-Tsuen
	Changhua, Taiwan 515 R.O.C.

E-Mail inquiries should be addressed to Dr. Cheryl Rutledge, Chairperson,
English Search Committee, at: rutledge at aries.dyu.edu.tw .

In addition to the application materials, an interview is required. All
applicants selected as finalists are encouraged to come to DYU for an
in-person interview. Candidates who are unable to travel to Taiwan may send
a video tape. Those who plan to submit a tape in lieu of an in-person
interview should contact Dr. Rutledge via E-mail or Dr. Chen via phone
(886-4-852-8469, ext 290).

DYU is a private institution which was founded as an Institute of
Technology in 1990 and elevated to University status by the ROC Ministry of
Education in 1997. The current enrollment is around 8000. The campus is
located on the side of a mountain in a rural area of Central Taiwan, about
30 kilometers (18 miles) south of Taichung, the 3rd-largest city in Taiwan.
A limited number of apartments for faculty are available on campus at
competitive rental rates; other housing is available nearby. At the current
exchange rate, a typical salary for an Associate Professor is about
US$30,000 per year.
