excessively long.

Subject: 7th International Pragmatics Conference
7th International Pragmatics Conference, early July 2000, Budapest, Hungary
Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee: Frenc Kiefer, IPrA President
and Director of the Linguistic Institute of the Hungarian Academy of
Sciences.
Special Theme:
Cognition in Language Use:
The role of perception and representation, memory and planning, and
metalinguistic awareness.
As usual, the conference will be open to all other topics relevant to the
field of pragmatics conceived broadly as a functional - i.e. cognitive,
social, and cultural - perspective on language and language use. There will
be plenary lectures (some on the special theme, others on topics of wider
interest), parallel lecture sessions (on topics related to the special
theme), poster sessions (on topics outside of the special theme area), and
panels (which may be on any topic relevant to pragmatics). Letters of
intent for the organization of panels may already be sent to the IPrA
Secretariat. A full call for papers will be distributed in January/February
1999. The anticipated deadline for abstracts is 1 November 1999.
