Please do not use abbreviations or acronyms for your conference unless
you explain them in your text. Many people outside your area of
specialization will not recognize them. Also, if you are posting a
second call for the same event, please keep the message short. Thank
you for your cooperation.

Call for Papers: The 9th Japanese/Korean Linguistics Conference
The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, U.S. A.
July 31-August 2, 1999
DEADLINE: All submissions must be received by January 10, 1999.
This conference aims to provide a forum for presenting research in Japanese
and Korean linguistics, thereby deepening our understanding of these two
languages, which have striking typological similarities. We especially
encourage presentations which investigate both languages. Potential topics
include, but are not limited to: syntax, semantics, typology,
discourse/pragmatics, grammaticalization, historical linguistics,
phonology, morphology, first and second language acquisition,
psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics. Abstracts submitted must
represent original, unpublished research. Presentations will be 20 minutes
long, plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
Please submit:
1) six copies of an anonymous, clearly titled 1 page abstract for review.
Examples and references may be given on a second page. If your paper is
accepted, this abstract will be included in the conference handbook. No
changes in the title or the authors' names will be possible after
acceptance.
2) for EACH author, one copy of the information form printed at the bottom
of this message.
Please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for acknowledgment of
receipt. Notice of acceptance or rejection will be sent by May, 1999.
Pre-registration materials and a preliminary program schedule will also be
available in May, 1999.
All authors who present papers at the conference will be invited to
contribute their papers to the Proceedings, Japanese/Korean Linguistics 9,
published by CSLI and distributed by Cambridge University Press.
