A position of 'maitre de conferences' in Oral English (post MCF 1615)
will be available for the academic year 1999-2000 in the Institut
d'anglais Charles V (Universite Paris-7) rue CharlesV, 75004 PARIS.
Those interested in this position should (1) hold a "these de doctorat
nouveau regime" (or foreign equivalent) in phonetics and/or in
phonology and/or Oral English didactics, (2) feel able to adopt the
theoretical framework created by Lionel Guierre in morphophonology,
graphophonetics and phonographematics, (3) be native English speakers
or have a perfect command of the English language.
In France recruitment procedures for full-tenure academic personnel
follow two compulsory stages:
(1) A "qualification procedure" with the CNU (National Council for
Universities) to which candidates must submit two copies of their
doctorate (or foreign equivalent), their 'rapports de soutenance de
these' (or recommendations from doctorate supervisors in countries
where such reports are not available) and possibly of their research
papers, academic publications and/or translations. The deadline for
submitting these dossiers to the CNU is generally in the end of the
calendar year (December) preceding the recruitment year. In this case
all dossiers should be sent in by 16 November 1998. Only those
'qualified' by the CNU shall be authorized to carry on their
recruitment procedure after being officially notified (normally by 7
April 1999).
(2) A formal application to the French Universities (in this case
Paris-7, section 11), which entails - once academic posts have been
advertised in the Bulletin Officiel - the submitting
of an administrative dossier as defined in the afore-mentioned
Bulletin Officiel and of an academic dossier similar
to that submitted to the CNU: copies of doctorates, reports and
research papers (see description in (1)). Applicants who are
short-listed must take an interview (generally in May or June, in this
case in 1999) with the 'Commission des Specialistes' of the University
where they're applying which is the only body empowered to decide on a
recruitment.
Foreign candidates are also recommended to produce certified
translations of the administrative documents (birth certificates, etc)
requested at all stages of the recruitment procedure. Further
information on Higher Education Recruitment Procedures can be obtained
by accessing http://www.education.gouv.fr/dpe/calqlf99.htm
Those interested in this post strictly concerned with the teaching of
oral English can obtain further information by sending messages to
