                                          LINGUISTICS POSITION

     LINGUISTICS. Tenure-track assistant or associate professor. Ph.D.
required by the starting date of the position, August 1, 1999. Salary
dependent upon qualifications. Minimum of three years teaching
experience is preferred.  Successful candidates must demonstrate a
willingness to strengthen a new Linguistics program. All candidates
must have course work or previous experience in teaching History of
the Language, Sociolinguistics, and Modern English Grammar. Preference
given to candidates with background in additional areas, such as
non-Indo-European languages, Language and Society, and (con)textual
analysis. Must be able to interact well with other departments, such
as anthropology, sociology, communications, and Africana
Studies. Initial screening of selected applicants may occur at the
Modern Language Association Conference in San Francisco on Dec. 27-30,

Subject:   Temporary Phonology Lectureship



Applications are invited for the position of a temporary lectureship in
phonology and general linguistics.  The position is in the Department of
Western Languages and Literatures at Bogazici University, Istanbul, for
the fall semester of the academic year of 1999-2000 (October 1, 1999  -
January 15, 2000), with a possibility of extending it another term.

In addition to graduate level phonology and introduction to linguistics, the
applicant may be asked to teach a third course in general linguistics.

The applicant is expected to hold a Ph.D. in linguistics at the time of
application. The salary for the position is roughly 175.000.000TL per month
after tax is deducted (USD1=275.000TL currently).

The language of instruction at B.U. is English. The University will provide
accommodation for the successful candidate.

Subject:  Computational Linguist

		Caere Corporation is looking for a senior computational
linguist with a Ph.D. or Master's in either Computer Science or Linguistics
to work on its intelligent document management products. In particular,
Caere seeks an individual with a strong linguistics background to help
develop multi-lingual intelligent text-processing methods useful for
retrieving, manipulating, and organizing large numbers of  documents.
Applicants must have three years of work experience and have used C or C++
