Subject: Doctoral support in Linguistics, U of South Carolina
The Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina
still has three TA-ships available through the Department
of English Language and Literature for 1999-2000.
We are particularly interested in doctoral students who have
interests in areas that are Program strengths. These include:
historical linguistics, language contact, language variation,
general sociolinguistics, and second language acquisition.
This support is particularly well suited to a doctoral candidate
who anticipates an academic career as a Linguist in an English
Department, and to this end the Program has articulated secondary
specializations in Composition and Rhetoric and in Medieval and
Early Modern English Literature.
A desirable applicant would be one with an MA in Linguistics,
English, or a related area. An interest in, and experience
with, teaching is highly desirable.
For more details about the Linguistics Program at USC, please
visit our Program website: www.cla.sc.edu/ling/index.html
or contact the Director: Stanley Dubinsky (dubinsky at sc.edu).
