                  Posdoc in Syntax-Semantics

The Graduiertenkolleg Sprachliche Repräsentationen und ihre
Interpretation at the University of Stuttgart invites applications for
postdoctoral fellowship in syntax-semantics. Candidates should have a
specialization in semantics or syntax and research interests which
include the syntax-semantics interface. The doctoral degree may be in
linguistics or (especially in the case of candiditates with
concentration in computational linguistics or semantics) in allied areas;
in either case expertise in linguistic theory is presupposed.

The Graduiertenkolleg is a structured doctoral program in linguistics
and computational linguistics, which is to be funded the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft starting in May 1, 2000. The program emphasizes
theoretical-linguistic and computational linguistic approaches to
phonology-phonetics, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Consideration
in selection of the postdoctoral fellow will be given to potential for
contribution to interdisciplinary research and teaching.

The fellowship will be awarded for a period of two years, beginning
May 1 to September 1, 2000. Requirements for the doctoral degree
should be completed at the time of starting the fellowship. Current
salary levels (which may be increased in the coming year) are DM 2490
to DM 2690 per month depending on age, with possible increments of DM
300 to DM 900 per month based on family status.

work (publication reprints, dissertation chapter, or other papers).

Cornell University:  The Department of Linguistics seeks to appoint a
scholar who specializes in formal semantics.   Familiarity with
foundational issues and connections to philosophy of language is highly
desirable as well as interfaces with syntax and pragmatics.  Teaching
responsibilities will include both graduate and undergraduate courses.  The
appointment is planned to begin July 1, 2000.  A tenure-track assistant
professorship (PhD required) is planned, BUT A SLIGHTLY MORE SENIOR
APPOINTMENT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE, AND CANDIDATES AT THE EARLY ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR LEVEL ARE THEREFORE ALSO INVITED TO APPLY.  Applicants should
