Our products include the Prosody(TM) speech processing
platform, running World-class multi-channel speech
recognition and synthesis algorithms.

This post's primary function is to enhance Aculab's isolated
and connected-word speech recognition capability, mostly by
developing phonetic and whole-word models for additional
languages. The work will also involve development of test
harnesses and technology demonstrators.

The successful applicant should be aware of key issues in
speech recognition, phonetics and statistics, but their main
area of expertise will be in C or C++ programming.
Organisational skills are also required, as the post will
include the specification and procurement of speech databases
to fill the needs of a number of concurrent projects.

The post may be suitable for a recent graduate, provided they
can demonstrate the required skills, but further relevant
experience and/or education would be a definite advantage.

LINGUISTICS POSITION

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Southern California
invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship to begin
Fall 2000.  We are looking for a linguist who engages in computational or
mathematical modeling of linguistic phenomena.  Particular research areas
of interest to the Department include, but are not limited to:
acquisition/processing;  language change/typology/variation;
neurolinguistics;  speech production/perception;  and
phonology/syntax/semantics.

Complete dossiers, including statement of interest, curriculum vitae,
sample publications, syllabi or course descriptions, teaching evaluations
if available, and three letters of reference should be sent to:
